  Dragonlady, I think it goes back to the 1960's and before, but yes, there was segregation, although now they don't like to talk about it, but racism has been a problem, maybe not so much anymore, but going back to when I was a kid even I saw what my dad went through, I just couldn't understand why he put up with it.

  Yeah My dad was a dark Hispanic, I remember he was treated badly when I was a kid by the white elders who thought that my mom was white, they always gave my dad a hard time and looked down on him. I wonder what do the blacks think about that now? How could you be involved in a religion who separated you based on the color of your skin???

  ...is not a witness, yet states that the reason jws have survived is because of their ability to adapt.

  just like the catholic church?

  this was in response to a list of ever-changing doctrines from 100 years ago till the present day.

  If you want to look up more about the last major changes in the Catholic Church look up the Vatican II 1962 council. The church hasn't changed its belief in the cross, or Military service. Couple things I know they stopped doing was the prayer for Jews, and mass in Latin. Compared to JW's I don't think it would be correct to say that the changes made by the Vatican are any where close to the amount of changes the ORG made, I couldn't imagine the pope saying we don't believe in the cross anymore, that would be crazy.

  I'm Catholic, the church is very slow to change, I heard about when they started allowing the Communion wafer to be placed in the hand, this wasn't well received by hard core Catholic's, as for me I always take communion on my tounge, I think JW's have changed more from their new light in the past 100 years then the Catholic's have changed in past 1,000 years.
